I promised discussing on the girl child education but before then I would want us to know little about slavery and difference between the girl child slavery and girl child labour.

WHAT IS SLAVERY??

Its referred to as a condition in which an individual has absolute power over the life; fortune and liberty of another. They are considered by law as property or chattel. It could also be defined as the state of being in bondage, servitude; subjugation, thrall; control and serfdom just to mention a few.

BRIEF HISTORY ON SLAVERY...

In the year 1441, was the the start of European slave trading in Africa. The Portuguese captain Antao Goncalves who was a Portuguese explorer and slave trader and first European to buy African slaves from black slave traders with Nuno Instao Capture 12 Africans in Cabo Branco (Modern Mauritania) and takes them to Portugal as slaves. History has it that most slaves in the Sub-Sahara Africa were Women (Heine Mann, May 29, 1997). Although slavery is no longer legal anymore around world since it was abolished in year 1830, however there are subtle forms of slavery being in the form of girl child slavery.
The girl child slavery remains an international and local problem with the estimate of 5million girl child slavery worldwide including the United Kingdom.

WHAT THEN IS THE GIRL CHILD SLAVERY???

Its refers to the slavery of the girl child below the age of Majority (0-17years) depending on your countrys law. Fernand Braudel a French Historian and a leader of Annales School noted that slavery was Endemic in Africa and parts of the structure of our everyday lives. In the past and even now now many of our girls are been sold into slavery in other for the families to repay debt; crimes or to earn some money. This is actually out of their own volitions.


Girl child slavery is often confused with Girl child labour.

GIRL CHILD SLAVERY
While girl child slavery is having restrictions placed on their freedom of movement, bought and sold as a property; dehumanized; mentally and physically abused.
GIRL CHILD LABOUR
Its not slavery; its a work that deprives children of their childhood. Employing children under the age of 18 for hazardous work in a way that prevent them from their basic education and development.
